Default "Black" Barber Shops in Midtown/Manhattan?

Hey all,

I'm looking for a Black barber shop, or any barber shot that could cut black hair well, in Manhattan. Preferably Midtown, but I will take any suggestions within Manhattan. I am used to getting my hair cut in Queens, but with my new job, it would be more convenient to have it done in Manhattan. Any and all suggestions are welcomed. THANK YOU!!

That's kind of a subjective thing. Personally I've had the experience of no two barbers cutting my hair the same exact way.

Midtown does not have too many Black or Latino barber shops. In fact I don't know of any such thing in Midtown. Maybe a few of the train stations have barber shops.

I will tell you that in Harlem/Wash Heights, there is a barber shop or beauty salon on just about every block. Don't know if that helps.

People usually like getting a cut around where they live, not around where they work. Where do you happen to live, maybe someone on the forum can recommend a barber in your neighborhood.

You might have to trek to either Downtown Brooklyn (fulton Street, bridge street) or go uptown to Harlem, Washington Heights.

There is a place on 40th and 6th I believe. Somewhere near Staples If I pass it again, I'll get the card. I've seen mixed races in there.

Take a look at www.blackbarberdirectory.com. You may find something there. I relocated and found one though this site.

You can try one of the Korean Barbershops. I used to frequent one that was around 39th street and 6th avenue (when I had hair ). They had a large black clientale and the barbers were very good.

I go to Locs n Chops on 34th near 8th ave. But I'm a chick and I'm not sure how good their classic barber skills are. It's a mixed shop for men and women.

You will find tons of Dominican salons around Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue between 100th street and 109th streets (practically one or two on every block) with many having barbers (usually one barber to several female stylists), and of course the Domican salons are fully versed in Black and Spanish, and even course White, hair.
