Look so many different stories and opinions... Some say layoffs some say hiring... Bottom line is they didn't extend the list for no reason... Also before the last round of hiring Dsny was wayy undermanned there's no way they can be way over... People do retire and supervisors are suppose to get their spots back... Will they hire soon no idea... I'm not saying whos right or wrong but clearly not everyone can be right

DSNY may be slightly over necessary manpower as of now, but I think it'll even out during the latter half of 2012 by attrition via retirement. My guess is that the city will hire another class before the snow season would begin. THAT is if the retirement rate stays as is, but expect that rate to rise after a virtually non-existent storm season. I think two, if not three like last year, classes will be added before the year is over.

I have been noticing that a lot of cars parked by the garages have these cool DSNY air fresheners in the windows. Some look like t-shirts and some say DSNY. Anybody have any idea who is selling them??

Wouldent worry union rep said it's not even a discussion... They could do that... Like everyone says everything is rumors until it actually happens. Keep I'n mind think about when this test started and think how far it's gone .. Only reason some garages are over is because the amount of cuts that had to be made. And roughly 15-20 guys on average retire DSNY wide. Stay positive .. I'm with you I made OCT class I don't want to be laid off .. But after asking questions I think well be fine...

Here's a link to the new pension form states no layoffs for NYPD,FDNY never mentioned DSNY - Governor Cuomo Announces Passage of Major Pension Reform | Governor Andrew M. Cuomo

But here's a article from few months back of bloomberg discussing lowering DSNY by 2014 - City budget proposal unveiled Friday - New York Daily News

We got a uniform guy that comes to our garage. Saw him today and picked up some of those air fresheners. They smell lovely and look great!

Yeah but wouldnt the people hired in 89-90 either have retired already or wait till they have 25 years which would mean their not leaving for a couple more years
