Hi. I have a big gathering coming up and wanted to change my hair color. I was leaning towards the hair color that Oliva currently has. The problem is, I am surrounded by a cluster of "neighborhood" hair salons that do the traditional, by-the-book, basic highlights!!

I'm searching for a salon that is either in the Bronx or Harlem where I can get the proper highlights I am yearning for.. And not have to bust my budget to receive some decent hair treatment..

Please help..

Thank in advance

You may be better off checking a site like Yelp for good salons, they have a lot of helpful reviews there. I don't know how many here would be able to recommend a colorist.

What's the difference between "basic" highlights and "proper" highlights?

Personally, I'm skeptical about Yelp, but in a pinch, you could cross-check with City Search and see what you come up with. I wonder if somewhere there's a web forum specifically for Harlem or the Bronx.
