Hi everyone so my rent will be $1500 a month. Ill have a roommate. How much do I need a month to cover car payment, insurance and all utilities? Thanks! Utilities will also be split in half to. Thanks
Were u 21 and moved ro brooklyn? How much did u pay? Ill be living in the kensington neighborhood
$60k minimum amd thats assuming housing and utilities come to $1700/month..i agree dumping the car would be a good idea if you work in Brooklyn or Manhattan, however if you do have a car, I suggest you get an old car to avoid finance or lease payments (2002-2008 Toyotas or Hondas are quite reliable) and insurance will run you anywhere from $1200-1800/yr depending on what you drive and specific neighborhood (auto insurance rates vary based on neighborhood safety stats). When I lived on my own in South Queens, I was pulling in $ 62K with housing costs of around $1900-2K/month (also w a $300/month car payment) and I was getting by, but by no means "comfortable"- I easily went over budget some months based on grocery bills/restaurants, health costs, gifts, car repairs/maintenance, etc...
this should be all figured out before you rent an apartment.
Roomates are never a good idea.
Also, when living with roomates you have to say, if the roomate drops dead, can i afford the apartment by myself until i find another roomate...
if the answer is no, then dont do it
