what is the reason they want the phone? to use the time on it or for it's value? if only interested in the value, i presume my Verizon Accolade LG flip phone which was less than $30 would not interest them?

do these characters go after any cell phone that happens to be out or is it only the expensive ones?
if they saw my Verizon LG Accolade flip phone that cost me under $30 would they go for that?

That area always had problems with crime. However, crime is definitely going up across the city, I notice more and more lowlifes walking around everyday.

231 and bway always had a problem with crime? I used to see a girl up there a long time ago and i never felt in danger at any time of day or night.

Its the phones..
iPhones are targets for thieves. They resell them. There was just a sting operation busting stolen iPhone sales. Other phones and devices get stolen as well. Best bet: Keep it out of sight. And to the folks with their tablets and laptops on their lap out in the open: Why do this? Wait til you are home! There is no reason to invite challenges like this. A train ride with just keeping it out of sight can save you a lot of trouble.

I have never felt ill at ease, either, around W231st & Broadway in Kingsbridge at many times of the day and night. Crime can happen anywhere, but the location referenced is not a higher crime area of the city, by far. I have been to the 24-hour Walgreens on the corner of Broadway & W231st at Midnight, 2am, etc. and have never felt unsafe. Then again, I don't walk around Broadway while browsing on my tablet, iPad, or smartphone, so that may be part of the reason why I have not noticed anything untoward.

According to stats 70‰ of theft in the subway is due to the highrate of ios devices that straphangers carry. I remember a guy telling me about a pawn shop in Harlem and another one in south williamsburg where the pawnshop had many iphones and macbook pros which were stolen. These apple devices have a high resale value. The only ios device I havecis a first gen itouch. If I was walking around with an iphone or ipad it would increase my chances of becoming a victim on the street. I also have s kindle fire which I do use in the subway but I have a slip on it that gives itcan incognito look, I also havecan evo4g but who wants that. Most thieves only want ios devices so if your Asians American, gay, soccermom, elderly or a hipster and an apple fsnboy please put away your ios devices. Remember apps don't work underground.,

That has always struck me as an odd sight, too, more in line with Albany Crescent than the rest of Kingsbridge.
