a woman was in the 231 street station of the #1 train and told us a guy pulled a knife on her for her phone and knocked her down. by the time i got on the bus the entire intersection of 231 and B'way was blocked by police cars
do these characters go after any cell phone that happens to be out or is it only the expensive ones?
if they saw my Verizon LG Accolade flip phone that cost me under $30 would they go for that?
No, it's not. Have you seen the statistics of the last 50 years? It will, of course, get bad eventually, but it's not getting bad yet. She alive, she wasn't even robbed, right?
I don't know but I never use my cell phone on the subway .Nor would I carry a lap top on the subway or use one on the subway.I've never understood why people do.
well maybe i meant that for this to happen at 231 and B'way kind of unusual tho maybe not, who knows
Why is that unusual ? People get robbed in the best neighborhoods of the city every day.Madison Ave,Brooklyn Heights,Park Slope,SOHO,you name it.Why wouldn't it ever happen at Broadway and 231 st ?
Senator Schumer has proposed a bill that would require cell phone companies to totally disable any phone reported as stolen. They have the technology to do this now but are refusing to use it for some reason. This would eliminate the motive to steal phones because they would be rendered forever useless and worthless once reported stolen.
There was an article in the news about the uptick in cell phone thefts in NYC. Apparently we are #2 in the nation (behind only Miami) for this type of crime. So no, it's not unusual that it happened.

I keep my phone in my pocket.
Sometimes I pull out my phone in a subway to check a message (no service underground to call anyone), but I, myself, don't get how people can be so comfortable to use their lab tops on the subway. It's like some people's sensors are completely off no matter where they are.
I really trust the NYPD crime stats. If there's a lagging indicator of NYC crime stats, it's the official number.
