Times Square Comes to East New York: Pedestrian Plazas Arenít Just for Midtown

Times Square Comes to East New York: Pedestrian Plazas Aren

This is what we need more of citywide. East NY wanted this. Not confined to Brooklyn either. East Harlem wants a dedicated bike lane and the Bronx loves the SBS BX12.

These plazas are for tourists and not New Yorkers and there not what the city needs....the city needs to learn what and how to build a proper plaza that benefits all and is liked by the community.

How is a Plaza in East NY for tourist? It's a public space for locals.

I am not as negative on this one as nexis but it does bother me that the city is supposedly on the brink of collapse where schools need to be closed and the city needs to cut back on teachers, police officers, and firefighters and yet it still has time and money for things like this across the city... I agree that something needed to be done with this neighborhood but it shouldn't be at the expense of much more important things...

and look at what Benedetto said about the plazas... ďIf I may be graphic,Ē Mr. Di Benedetto said, ďit is like going into an apartment that has cockroaches and flipping on the lights. They all scurry away and it becomes a nicer place to live.Ē It has the cleaned-up comforts of Times Square without the corporate presence."

Definitely meant for locals ...

Come on, we can't put our money on just one card. This is good for East NY. A few of these planned across the city.

Another fact is that these plazas are seen as positive, East NY is happy. The plaza will be upgraded accordingly. It's not easy for the DOT to push a large project out. Baby steps.
