Barriers on Wall Street
Does anybody know why there are still barriers blocking most of Wall Street? The protests ended a month ago or so.
I just started working downtown around the time of the protests ... I can't remember, were the barriers ALWAYS there for some reason?

I dont recall seeing any barriers there. The Charging Bull is being protected from vandalism by barricades and NYPD. Im in the Hotel biz and get this question frequently as of late. Though they sometimes let tourists slip in for a quick photo if asked nicely, Esp by an attractive gal. No sexism here-This is fact. |

Maybe to prevent people from loading up vans with explosives and driving them into the lobbies?

They've had bollards blocking access to Wall Street since after 9/11.

OP: I also work in the financial district and have to walk on Wall regularly. I was just there today, as a matter of fact. Those barriers are obnoxious. I can only assume it's leftovers from the OWS protest that they haven't bothered to remove. Whatever the case, it causes traffic flow to come to a complete halt with all the tourists snapping photos of the exchange, etc.
Mightyqueen - This isn't the normal bollards on Broad and Wall and the general area. This is like the police barricade fencing. They have it now so you can only cross Wall in certain sections and it completely blocks you in on the sidewalk. Def wasn't this way 6 mos ago. Used to be a nice place to walk since you essentially had the whole closed off street to dart around slow movers. Now you're just stuck.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if Wall St/NYSE area turned into a permanently controlled access area even to pedestrian traffic.
They've even got the bull blocked off now? Good lord.

Same reason there are barriers on PARK ROW to protect the Police Station after 9/11 and kept up for a decade. The POLICE like an armend camp mentality...it lets them tell us they are in charge (unitil it is time for them to pick up their paychecks.)
