Eastern bed stuy? I think you mean western bed stuy. Eastern bed stuy is the pure ghetto.
Everything "east" seems to be ghetto:
East of Grand Concourse, East Tremont, East Morrisania, eastern Mott Haven, East Harlem, East Flatbush, east of Broadway in Washington Heights, East NY, Northeast Brooklyn...

I don't know about west of the concourse but word on the street is that East Tremont is worse and East Harlem is ten times worse than west harlem nowadays which was the whole point of the comment...

East Tremont is definitely not worse than West Tremont. Where do you get that idea from? West Tremont had murder rate near 16 per 100,000 last year, one of the highest rates in the city. On the other hand, East Tremont was at about 13 per 100,000. West Tremont is about 50% black, I don't know how a neighborhood which is only about 30% could be worse. In fact, West Tremont has the highest number of NYCHA rehabs in the city.
Also West of the Concourse was way worse than East of the Concourse for a long time. Ever heard of Creston/Morris and E 183rd back in the 80's? It was dubbed the worst street in NYC, and that intersection had more than 50 shootings in the span of 3 months back in 1996, this AFTER the crack wars ended. Andrews avenue all the way to Davidson avenue on 176th street was a crack battleground. These blocks where notorious. If we're talking nowadays, there is no difference west and east of the Concourse. The only difference is that the Puerto Rican majority east of the Concourse becomes Dominican west of it.
West Harlem back in the 1980'-1990's, was probably pound per pound, the most cocaine infected neighborhood in the city. I should know, both my uncles "set up shop" over on Amsterdam. The 30th precinct had the third highest murder rate in the city in 1990 (92-96 per 100,000) which is insane rate that only few precincts ever reaches (41st -Hunts Points, 28th - Lower Central Harlem). Mott Haven, Bed Stuy, and Morrisania where the only other precincts to reach a rate of at least 90, if we exclude the 48th and it's arson. For comparison, Brownsville's and East NY's worst ever rate was only about 67-74 per 100,000. If your asking why the 30th precinct was so bad, well, Dominican Drug Gangs. La Compania, the largest drug gang in the city, operated up and down the Amsterdam-Broadway corridor in the 140's. However, the 30th precinct in West Harlem is not worse than East Harlem in 2012.
Sorry for the history lesson, but I just think that this east-west thing is baloney, its BS. It wasn't the case back then, and in 2012 only a few east are actually worse.

Just curious is east flatbush worse then the 50 percent black tremont you were talking about?
Which I guess refers to shooting victims, and shooting incidents.
Mott Haven 59 shooting victims in 2011, and 48 shooting incidents.
