168th Street on Grand Concourse
I'm interested in this great apartment for a reasonable price on the Grand Concourse on 168th Street but I was wondering what opinions people may have on the area with regards to crime and personal safety. I come home around 9 pm some evenings with my children and my husband comes home in the wee hours of the morning on a regular basis.
I went out there this morning when viewing the apartment and it (the area) seemed okay. But that was only a visit on a winter morning.
My husband and I have two girls. We would not be changing schools or anything.
Thanks for any opinions.

In ghetto neighborhoods preying on children is not the norm.

@girls1- I dont think that area is bad as other areas of the Bronx.. you are a few blocks away from the Bronx museum of art.. I think there's also a catholic church/school called christ a king around that area off on 167 you have lil shops and things to eat nothing fancy .. also right on the concourse you have the B/D, 1/2 bus and on 167 Jerome ave you have the 4 train. Ahh and don't forget the 44th precinct.
I think you will be fine.. people always make it out to be like you are going to walk out the door and OMG get shot up.. its so ridiculous. I've lived in the Bronx forever and GCC is not a place that i fear walking @ night.. If it works for you and your family then you do what you have to do.

My philosophy is that the areas south of 167 seems to be better in overall safety maintrence aswell as redevelopment and ameneties. If anything at least your closer to the lower concourse and Bronx civic buildings. The further you go up on the concourse you will notice urban blight and other social ills.

I'm not a clairvoyant but I believe more improvments will come to this area within the next 10 years altough I haven't consulted the department of city planning.

Thanks everyone for the replies. The area seemed okay. I don't recall seeing any graffiti and there was only one building that seemed. Unkempt. I was not keen on the neighborhoods adjacent to the Concourse though.
