Sunnyside? (affordable apartments, neighborhood, restaurants)

I found some somewhat affordable apartments in sunnyside but was wondering is the area safe ? are there things to do ? restaurants ? easy commute to manhattan? anything else about it you feel i need to know would be appreciated

It's a safe and quiet neighborhood, the parts that I've past through(48th Av.). Pretty much a residential neighborhood. Commute to Manhattan is about 15 to the Midtown area via the 7 train. Queens Blvd. would be the commercial shopping area. As far as tings to do, it is, or was, and Irish enclave so there should be some pubs scattered around. From what I've seen, there are some restaurants, mostly "mom and pop" South American and Dominican joints. Don't expect "classy" food.
