My wife and I international students studying in Portland, Oregon
My wife and I found accept admission to continue our masters degree in Brooklyn College and we are considering moving there in August 2012
We wish you to consult the safety in Brooklyn? Do you think it's good and safe to go and live there for four years to study? Or look for another university more safety in other state.
Please remember that we are from Middle East NOT American citizen
We have a car and we can pay rent around 1200$ per month.
Your opinion is very important to us
DO NOT TRY EAST NEW YORK. Generally, look to live in areas that are west of the college and you will find many nice apartments in your price range in safe areas. Look at Bensonhurst or Bay Ridge. Both are easy commutes to the college and great areas.

I agree with Taxi guy. West of that are nice. Bay ridge is great for restaurants and nightlife esp.
Brooklyn is going to be a whole lot different from Portland, but don't let it steer you away from studying at Brooklyn College. As for security issues nobody can promise that nothing ain't gonna happen to you or your girfriend. You can chocke on a ham sandwich home in Oregon like that Mama Cass in Frisco.
Thank you all
It seems that we will not go there because of the security situation
Outside of East New York and Brownsville, Brooklyn, on average, is just as safe as Portland, Oregon actually.
