You'd be better off taking the Bx36 route to the Tremont Avenue station, or the Bx12 to the Fordham Road station, depending on where you lived. Both of those stations are express stations (which means that during rush hour, the (D) doesn't skip it), whereas Yankee Stadium is bypassed by the (D) during rush hour.
Also, the Bx55 didn't even run too frequently to Yankee Stadium: Buses to The Hub were much more frequent (I have a 1993 Bronx bus map that shows the frequencies. I'm not going to look for it now, but I think service to The Hub was every 3-4 minutes, whereas service to Yankee Stadium was every 10-12 minutes)
