I'm leaving the small town South to stay in NYC for a brief period, about a month. *These are a few of my housing options, of course with many differences. *Before I consider where to stay, I'd like to find out what perceptions are regarding their safety. *I'm a lone female working odd hours, do I'll be taking the subway home at all hours of the night and early morning. *Any thoughts or advice will be appreciated!

Perhaps you should also consider transit options. I love Greenpoint, but the only subway there is the G, which is notorious for bad service late at night. Also if you are working in Manhattan, it requires you to transfer to another line, since the G doesn't operate in Manhattan.
The Astoria locations are much more transit friendly. Both appear to be walking distance to the N/Q/E/R/M trains.
The mta.info site allows you to look up schedules if you want to see the frequency of trains late at night on the various lines.
IMO all places are pretty dangerous. That is if you walk with pride and make eye contact with people and dont cower from anyone.
On the flip side these/most places are pretty safe if you keep your head down and avoid confrontation at most costs.
Basically this is New York City, if you want it, you could catch it/if you're looking for problems you'll find it.
