Low cost eye care (health insurance, purchases, school)

Since we often get questions asking about cheap or free medical care (I've had tons of responses to my posts about cheap dental care), I thought I'd mention this, although I don't know much about it.

There is something called Kress Vision, in downtown Manhattan, at 100 William Street (212-233-8483) and I think they give free eye exams, although I don't know what their fees might be beyond that.

I think that I have seen in the past adverts of various chain eye wear stores that will give a free eye exam if one purchases eye glasses from them,

Eye care like dental has very few inexpensive options. This is really across the entire USA, though some areas might prove better than others.

What is out there (cheap) often relies upon various clinics or whatever usually associated with a medical/dental school or some other place of higher learning.

Kress Vision falls under this category as it is part of Cornell, and is grant funded.

Agreed but the only other I know of is a free eye exam for those who have Medicaid type health insurance.
