How else does a NY general manager get away without talking to the media or even last this long without a championship. Under many owners, he would have been fired after spending tons of money and not making the playoffs in his first four years on the job that extended the Rangers' non-playoff stretch to seven games.

To his credit, Dolan hasn't meddled, letting the hockey people do their job and the Rangers have possibly their best team since 1993-94, anchored by a goalie who was a seventh-round pick 11 years ago in the draft.
Well Dolan does have a media gag on just about everyone, so Sather is able to skirt by. I have to say when Sather does talk it's like listening to the Pope speak. Everyone pays attention.

It's not like the summer of 1999 when he insisted Neil Smith sign Theo Fleury, Valeri Kaminsky, Stephane Quintal and Sylvain Lefrevbre. Ranger fans know how that turned out.

As for the Knicks, call Donnie Walsh to ask what he thinks of Dolan's meddling..
Sylvain Lefrevbre was the best signing out of that group.
