Hi Emerald, I am going to agree with Buffalo. Post this in NYC for more responses.

On that note, I used to live in the Woodhaven and Richmond Hill area so I know Ozone Park and South Ozone Park pretty well. They are mostly semi-suburban areas, highly residential.

Traditionally much of Ozone Park was mostly white (Italian especially) and South Ozone Park was more black with some white areas. Both areas are now more multi-cultural because of immigration.

The schools are fine at the lower grades but the NYC high schools are way behind, at least by suburban standards. The "A" train is the main subway to the city, but its a pretty long ride. On the other hand, you can also take the train in the opposite direction down to the Rockaways and their beaches. In addition, JFK airport is only a hop skip and a jump away.

ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING.

Aqueduct Racetrack, which is more or less between Ozone Park and South Ozone Park, is a now a casino (Racino). This is causing alot of traffic on areas near the racetrack, especially on Rockaway Blvd. And the State is talking about expanding it into a full fledged casino and convention center.

Wow, I didn't know Aqueduct is a casino now! How is it affecting the neighborhood apart from traffic?

The Aqueduct Casino has only open for a few months (the racetrack itself since the 1890s) so it is kind of soon to judge its effects as far as I know. I wonder what it will do local businesses in the immediate area, good or bad?

What section of Ozone Park are you moving to? Some sections are decent, and others are kinda ghetto.
