Tony22...can you tell us a little about your credentials. For example, do you have a college degree, and from what school? Do you have any previous employment, and if so was it applicable or a totally different career?

I am curious to see what the NYPD is seeking these days.

I have an associates from a community college. You need 60 credits to become a cop.

You don't have to feed anything to BitterBroGuy, Tony. He's a miserable person with a deep loathing for anybody in any kind of uniform. He can care less what your credentials are or what they ask for. He's just trying to stir the pot and will always be the "rebel" that he is.

Why am I bitter? It is just a question...he has the minimum 60 credits (AA degree) required, and no other relevant work experience..so he is really "fresh meat." I have no comment other than wanting to know as I suspected that the candidates going into the NYPD meet the absolute minimum requirements, and not much more. Logically, nobody would think someone who spend $40K per year, for 4 years, at Princeton or Swarthmore, or someone in a high-income profession or education intensive (MBA or PHD) profession is trying to get into the NYPD...so his credentials make sense. An AA from Brooklyn Community college sounds about right.

Actually, Cheryl Walter graduated from Harvard and graduated from the academy after her masters from Harvard. I believe it was around 07.

And I don't doubt somewhere in the history of the NYPD a PHD also joined the force. What we are talking about though is the 99%, not the 1% exception. I don't have the stats though on the recent classes.

You do realize that you can't get promoted without a college degree, right? So even if they don't have a bachelors now, they will have to get one if they ever want to advance.

I have no idea about their promotion policy. Something tells me you can get promoted without a 4 year degree but not sure why. Are you saying without a 4 year degree you are stuck at an entry level position for the 25 years you are there? That is doubtful.
