You do not know of which you speak.

Nothing, repeat nothing, beats a kosher pastrami or kosher corned beef on rye.

Well Carnegie certainly isn't Kosher.

Rather than recommending any one place, I recommend getting a pair of comfortable walking shoes and exploring. Every neighborhood in NYC has good local food. Ask a few of your neighbors or workmates and start from there. Don't bypass the food trucks either. Also, on a pleasant spring or summer day, an improvised seat in a nearby park with some takeout is every bit as good as a reserved seating in a 5 star restaurant. New York City is culinary heaven. Seek and you WILL find!

Great advice, but Balthazar isn't near the Highline - it's in Soho.

I am glad to see that at least a few posters know you have to sneak into Red Hook to go to DeFonte's. A secret to alot of people because of it's Red Hook location but try one and you'll be a believer.

You can't eat there, sorry. But if you get in your car and head away from the Battery Tunnel there's places to sit along the waterfront, view The Statue of Liberty, and watch the ships go by. Nothing like it anywhere.

4th Ave and 44th Street.
The Policemen, Firemen, neighborhood workers and neighborhood people go there. Most lunchtime days there are 4 men making sandwiches and the line goes out the door.
That's about ten minutes from me. I'll give it a look.
