Default How much to tip driver

Pick up from Newark airport to w 128th street. What is considered a fair tip?

I remember a cab driver wanted a 20% tip. He started lecturing me how he does not make enough money driving a cab. How he depends on the tips to actually live. This was a well known livery car driver (all 666 #s.) I usually round-off the fare for yellow cabs or give 2 to 5 for livery cabs.

I tip ~10% within Manhattan. When I go from Manhattan out to where I live in Queens, I tip very generously if they go without a complaint.

That happened to me also. And the guy even got upset that I left him "only" a 10% tip.
That's one of the things I miss, and I like about Europe, people do their jobs, get paid a decent salary, and don't have to hustle for tips.
I get the point to some extent in the case of wait stuff, but here almost everybody expects a tip.
