Technically everywhere has bedrock, it is just shallow in some places and deeper in others. This is not something that is unique to just Manhattan.

After learning on 9/11 that firefighters have difficulty rescuing past the 70th floor, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be.

There really should be legal limitations to building heights based on fire safety standards.

The Design of the WTC was the part of the reason it came down and made it hard for rescuers to climb up. Everything was centralized , and they cut fire safety standards. Most New Skyscrapers are built to withstand large fires and even bombs.....

They also cited that the height of the thing made it very difficult to rescue over a certain floor. That was a big point made in the news coverage at the time.

Well considering there have been fires in 100s of other skyscrapers and the WTC was the only one to Collapse means its the design. Everything in the WTC was located in a Central area , most old and new skyscrapers have 3 or 4 stairwells and escape routes...

I'm not sure exactly what you mean about the WTC being centralized. Unless you mean the stairwells and elevators were concentrated in the middle of the buildings.

I thought the construction of the towers was a new untested building technique of the era. Where the four outsides walls sustained all the weight and integrity of the buildings and the centers were relatively fragile as compared to older construction. Therefore, when one of those walls were compromised the buildings would become very weak and unstable?

Well I for one like tall buildings. They're fun to gaze at and add dimension to a city. Empire state building is "the" tall building in New York.

Some of the buildings in Chicago may be taller but the skyline isn't really "filled out"

I'd say when a building is built in Chicago, it's almost as if it's designed to be that way in the skyline. New York is all about mass. Each skyline has it's strength. Chicago's makes use of the lake/waterfront, where NY's is built density/lack of space.

That building looks pretty ugly.
