I live in Riverdale and work in Wakefield, which is sparse on gyms and clubs.
Riverdale has Planet Fitness, Astral Fitness (which has some kind of boxing training for amateurs) and a few others tucked away
the YMCA boxing bags sound good but would someone train me in how to hit the bags rather than doing it aimlessly? there must be some kind of method to it
Losing weight is;
70% what you eat.
20% physical activity and 10% genetics.
First and foremost Eat well and healthy. Plenty of vegetables.
I'll agree on swimming, but any other physical activity that increases your heart rate for at least 20 mins daily should get on your way to a healthier weight.
back in 2009 I stayed on an exercise program (cross trainer machine 30-40 mins almost 7 days per week) for 5 months
then I got called to jury service for 3 weeks. I took public transit to and from the court and the gym was on that route. by day's end i was too tired to get off the bus and go to the gym. then when i got back to work i fell behind and had to work 6 days per week for 2 months straight to catch up. by that time my glucose had gone up and i was put on extra meds. tho i didn't go back to the gym i was still biking just about every day thru the end of 2010
then my mom got ill and i was out in Atlanta taking care of her for awhile until she passed. i haven't gotten on the bike since last spring but i just pumped up the tires today
yes, my doc told me that good diet was 70% in wt loss and exercise 30%..
I would nix boxing for weight loss. It is too high intensity, short term.
Get on a treadmill or a stationary bike and bang away at it for 45 minutes at whatever pace gets your heart up to 70-80% max rate. A TV screen with a good cable connection will help make it less boring. Do it 4 times a week and in a a few months you will have a new belly.
Also, celebrate small steps. I don't know how much you are looking to lose, but a mere 10% loss of your overall weight will do wonders for your health. And slow and steady wins the race.
