the local news says it is in Williamsbridge but isn't that in Morris Park? I was watching the news about the Jewish resident who had been harrassed by a neighbor and a swastika put in a window. this is terrible.
off the track question, does Morris Park have a lot of Jewish residents? I was under the impression it was majority Italian
Van Hoessen is actually in Pelham Parkway. It's a 1 block Street that runs from Pelham Parkway South down 1 block to Lydig Ave, just to the West of Jacobi Medical center.
Pelham Parkway's southern boundary is Neill Avenue and it's Northern boundary is Waring Avenue and it stretches from Bronx Park to the Hutch.
There are still lots of Jewish people all over Pelham Parkway both in that neighborhood and further West in all the co op buildings closer to Bronx Park. There are 3 or 4 active synagogues,a jewish Community Center and a mostly Jewish Senior Center as well as a few Beth Abraham senior apartment complexes.Someone told me that the senior citizen section of Pelham Parkway Houses, which is a separate high rise on Boston Road and Waring is mostly Jewish, but I've never been in there.Up until about 1990 Pelham Parkway was one of the biggest Jewish neighborhoods in the city but they have gone from being 60 % to less than 10%.It was the last Jewish neighborhood in The Bronx to be evacuated, leaving Riverdale as the sole survivor.
There are some Jews in Morris Park as well but not too many. It's definitely mostly Italian.
Did you hear about this on News 12 ? They call themselves News 12 The Bronx but much of the time they misidentify neighborhoods.None of those people live in The Bronx and they do a lot of their broadcasting from the cablevision studio on Long Island ! I can understand if someone might think Van Hoessen is Morris Park because the two neighborhoods meet right there but thinking it's Williamsbridge is ridiculous.
That is in Morris Park not Pelham Parkway. South of Pelham PKWY in that area is Morris Park. Bluedog u are completely out of ur mind thinking the pelham pkwy neighborhood stretches to the hutch.
according to newspaper articles i've read Williamsbridge is up to 233rd street but i guess there can be a lot of overlap depending on what you read and who you speak to. and then there are the postal boundaries
my office literally sits on a postal boundary. the staircase in my building linking the 2 buildings divides 10466(Wakefield) and 10470(Woodlawn). but the entire area of Wakefield in the 10470 zone is still known as Wakefield by everyone
"Oval Park" over in Norwood by Montefiore Hospital was originally called Williamsbridge Oval Park
