You drive to a job in NJ or LI that has no direct public transportation access.
You have a job that requires you to drive to different sites lugging stuff that you can't carry in your arms.
You want a car in case of an emergency with your kids.
When I say live in NYC, I mean BK or Manhat. Not far out places.
Why would you KEEP your car?
You do know that there is more to Brooklyn than just Williamsburg and Park Slope. Some parts are quite far out. In the same vein there are some really close parts of Queens where you don't need a car.
Because I need to go places at various times of the day and night that are not as convenient by another means of transportation, especially with passengers, luggage, and items that need to be secured, is a key reason to keep a vehicle.

This.... I'm not sure I understand the only Brooklyn or Manhattan designation. I live in Queens (also sublet out a place in Manhattan) and there's no way I would get a car. I've never owned a car in my life. We zipcar and rent cars every now and then.
