That Manhattan and certain Brooklyn neighborhoods are the only places you can possibly think of living, even if you have to squander all of your resources to live there.

The one that drives me nuts is that its just so hard to raise a family iin New York City. People are so amazed that we can do it. Well, as I posted on another thread, millions of people have done it, millions more will, most of the kids will turn out alright, and we wil all live to tell the tale. .

Ever in the toughest neighborhoods, every day is not the opening scene from an epsiode of Law & Order, tripping over dead bodies, avoiding drive-by shootings and child abductions, or fighting off rapists. And in more middle-class neighborhoods caution is the byword, not stark raving fear.

Obviously its different than raising a kid in the 'burbs. They do have more space, which is always nice. But basically we worry about the same things that suburbanites do: who are their friends? how are they doing in school? are they using drugs? will she get pregnant? are they out too late this evening?

And we don't have to worry about teenagers dying in car wrecks. Or who schlepps the younger ones around because theres no way for them to get anywhere unless someone drives them. We don't, for the most part, have to worry that they'll grow up totally freaked out being around people of a different race or ethnicity or people who make less money, like a lot of suburban kids.

Frankly, its not easy raising a family anywhere these days. But its not nealy as fear-inducing to do it here a outsiders sometimes make it sound.

That MSG is a high tech arena. Many hicks actually believe that before the Bruce Springteen and the E-street band concert and afterwards they complain that there were no amenities inside the venue. Go back to Xcel Energy Center then!
