They do look out of place in most neighborhoods, however it seems like a decent deal to me in most cases. They are newer construction and in a lot of neighborhoods in the city the Fedders are the only apartments/condos built within the past 50 years.

However if you think that is bad, this is what they are selling to investors for 600k in the South Bronx:

Two 3 family homes. Basically small block apartment buildings pretending to be houses.

Here is one of the new "affordable housing" buildings also going up in the South Bronx:

And check this out, also in the South Bronx. Gotta love living in that building next door. Typical urban OVER development. Hurting the community in the long run.

Does Fedders have some kind of deal with the city? Well at least they are clean looking when they first go up (organized).

However this thread would make more sense if it were a comparison between single family homes and apartment buildings.
that last picture is so illegal its not even funny
do u have the address for this pic? i have to do some research...

Yeah it probably is illegal, but developers can get away with anything these days.

To be fair...you see that kind of rampant and ridiculous construction all over the city...whereever there is an empty lot. I would much rather have these buildings going in that have block after block of vacant, rat infested lots. These buildings are not the best, but homeowners and investors are biuying them and improving the communities. They are a welcome addition versus doing nothing at all (which hasn't been working).

Some more of the pros- about living in apts:

You don't have to do any maintenance to the exterior.
It can be more sociable..... instead of going to your single family home and never seeing any nieghbors.
You can have the luxury of an elevator..no steps!
You can live on a high floor with great views.
It can be more secure, i.e. more people around, harder to gain access.
You can be in a doorman building..which is convenient on many levels (packages, assistance, security, etc).
You can typically be in an urban environment/downtown area...harder for single family homes.

The cons have been said already.
