Default Howcome Queens and SI are not reffered to by "Queens, NY"?

Howcome those are the only 2 boroughs that aren't written as "Queens, NY" and "Staten Island, NY" in their addresses? I've wondered this for a while.

Queens is referred to as Queens, NY. Staten Island is Staten Island, NY. Brooklyn is Brooklyn, NY. Bronx is Bronx, NY.

Manhattan is the only one addressed as New York, NY.

Do you mean it is referred to by neighborhood? Like Ridgewood, NY rather than Queens, NY? Although I've never seen the SI neighborhoods used in mailing addresses..... like Todt Hill, NY.

I know what the OP's trying to convey. He's asking why in Queens the respective neighborhoods have their own address lines, like Forest Hills, NY, Springfield Gardens, NY, etc, whereas in the Bronx it's just Bronx, NY, and in Manhattan it's New York, NY. I don't know the answer unfortunately.

Actually, Riverdale is Riverdale, NY although it is in the Bronx.

Anyway, I asked this many moons ago and the answer was that Queens is a conglomeration of what used to be a whole bunch of little towns. That is why they have retained their own addresses.

It is not exclusive though, as I have seen addresses just for Queens, NY.

Another anamoly is that Marble Hill in the Bronx is politically part of Manhattan. It used to be in Manhattan, but they redirected the Harlem River, which is actually a strait, and it ended up in the Bronx. However, they allowed them to remain politically part of Manhattan.
