No end to the nanny state? Ban on happy hour proposed (buying, law)

19 states have a ban on happy hour and a number more make it illegal to advertise happy hours. Also, technically a bar could still do a happy hour on food instead of alcohol in the sense that you would save the same amount if you bought a drink and something to eat.
Why would it surprise anyone that the right wing push to roll back the clock isn't limited to just women's,union,voting rights,immigration and gay issues ? There will probably be outright prohibition pushes in various places around the country in the next few years.
Wait until they start delegalizing interracial marriage.That might provoke at least a bit of a backlash but maybe not.
Are we ever going to wake up to what's going around us ar do we have to wait until the knock comes at our own door ?
The truth is that we have much more to fear from the imposition of fundamentalist christian law in this country than anything else like sharia law.
I'll start worrying about this if they formally proposed it. The article just says some people inside the DOH say it's been discussed. I'd be shocked if this saw the light of day.
That said, it's pretty disturbing that anyone there has even thought about this.
I would hope this is the case. Working people, Paying into the system and contributing to society being stripped of being able to relax and socialize with a few drinks while spending less. Where the savings, Even if small likely will go to buying goods that helps the economy. King Midas has this vision to turn everyone into squeaky clean robots who will shudder at the mere notion of having some fun. Supposedly to curb "Binge drinking." And how does this work exactly? A person who has the tendency to binge drink or problem drink can go to a liquor store and a convenience store and overindulge anyway. Most people, I think who are socializing after work are doing just that. Not everyone is stumbling out afterward like Jack Sparrow.
Everything in moderation. A responsible person will know and practice this. Why make an example of everyone. What's next? No donuts? No ice cream? light out after 9:00 PM? (Jail door slams.)
I would love to see an EXTENSION on the hours an establishment can serve liquor. 6 AM at the very least. Nightlife is HUGE for the NYC economy. Many people come here for that very reason.

That could be...if I had done a little more checking and seen the Gothamist article above I don't think I would have started the thread. Just goes to show to check things out first.
However there is a certain nanny state mentality that has developed under Bloomberg, maybe not so much at the beginning but certainly the last two or three years.
