Welcoming news! Great to see it in the skyline, Though we can never get back what we have lost as a whole, It's great to see progress and a symbol of strength.

And PATH and tunnel and bridge toll increases to cover decades of money loss becasue of cost overruns on this behemoth.

But I guess, viewed as a make-work project in hard times, it might have a bit of merit.

I work across the street from the WTC, and I really like the way the tower looks. The way it starts off as a square at its base, becomes an octagon, and will finally become a square again at the top, makes it look square from certain angles just as the old towers did. I hope they get the underground plaza finished before I retire - I miss the old mall under the WTC.

There was actually not a whole lot of need for the original World Trade Center. So the new one isn't of great importance to the city, either. But it looks nice and it seems to make some people happy. (It certainly looks better than the original towers--which were quite widely criticized at the time they were constructed, although it's become politically incorrect to point this out since September 11, 2001).
