i dont know about creston or morris but there's other blocks that i think look even worse than 184th like decatur, briggs, valentine in the 190's. those blocks look straight dangerous to me and i never got that vibe around fordham for some reason.

Do you ever go to bars?

of course night time is worse...for me there's really no place that i wouldnt go to during the daytime with the exception of certain parts of brownsville.
i go to bars, but not the hood bars.....bad element in there. there used 2 be a bar/club like a few blocks away from my house and every saturday night they would shoot outside after it was closed. i went there like 2-3 times.....it wasnt bad, but not my kind of vibe. i dont like going places where i feel like i have to grow eyes in the back of my head, even though nothing happened.

Yes, that's why I question when people hear tell a newcomer that they will likely be assaulted on certain blocks, esp if they're walking in the daytime.

Its a sad thing to be bullied like that but you should probably ignore it. Eventually in time, if you do stay there for a longer term it won't be a problem. Yes its tough to be the only person on non-color in the area but imagine if you were a hispanic woman or black woman in an all white neighborhood. Your just getting a view into a world you would never have known. Not everyone you encounter in these neighborhoods are all scumbags, decent people do live there. They are usually the ones who don't always venture out in the streets. Maybe you should go to the local church to make friends with your neighbors who aren't harrasing you. A majority of Hispanics are catholic so if your willing to actually immerse yourself I suggest that to be a starting point to feel less of an outsider even if your not religious.

Well put, Agrotera, well put indeed. Though I'm not sure she'd have to attend church...but a community meeting or something similar might be another alternative, if the OP doesn't feel ready for the church hopping (as my b/f--who has a super conservative Catholic mom to contend with--likes to say).

Harassment happens to all people no matter where you are. Because there are new faces coming to the Bronx, this is inevitable...it happened in every neighborhood....when the colored folks moved in 50 years ago..the same happened, and now the white folks are returning and it is happening to them. We are human beings and it is in our nature to shun things/people that are different...it is a learned behavior not to. Don't take it personal...as it is usally a gut reaction or by those that are just dumb/bored/usless anyway.

Yes I have read the same article as everyone else Concept. The point was not that white people are flooding back into the Bronx, it is that the originator of the thread was either not from the Bronx/area, or white, which would make he/she, a new face. It applies whether it is a new face, new color, or whatever...the white thing was just an example.

Not that I condone it but I can understand the threat that seeing white faces would pose. This usually means bad news for a poor area is on the way (for the locals at least).
My b/f gets hassled a bit, but the best thing to do is ignore it. If someone asks for change, just say no. Some people are itching for a fight, so don't give it to 'em.
