I agree with the statement about the PJs becoming islands of poverty. All across the city neighborhoods are being reclaimed from the dealers, and they are being pushed back to the projects or smaller pockets of areas. In time they will be relegated to ONLY the projects, as the continued improvement in the areas abutts the PJs directly.

If you want to live in a affordable hispanic & black neighborhood, at least live in a decent one. Places like Parkchester, Norwood, Bedfoord Park, Pelham Parkway (by the 2) all come to mind as neighborhoods where you're not going to be openly harassed for being white.
If you can afford to go a little bit more upscale then that you should look into neighborhoods like Morris Park, Riverdale, Throggs Neck, Country Club, etc.

I used to live in the south BX too. And I can say for my part, that people never harassed me. They looked and said 'God bless you mama' or 'you gorgeous' but nothin nasty. But may be because I don't look very light. I didn't look like I'm not from there. I was harassed alot when I used to live on the westside, how ironic...lol...

By westside what do you mean, where at? What happened to you? I'm curious.
People forget a lot of Puerto-Ricans look no different that an Irish or Italian person, so a lot of White people can actually blend in pretty successfully in the Bronx. The way you stick out is moreso in the way you carry yourself, your mannerisms, or like if you walk around with a bug up your ass, or if you walk around obviously scared.

I used to live W 106th st. and when I was walkin down on columbus or Amsterdam to get to the 1 train on 103rd. a few older dominicans (there were I guess in their 50ties) were drinkin and hangin out on the streets. One dude was like 'I would like to put my d*** in your a$$!' I'm like 'what'? That was one case. Then at other times there were just comin up to you being all up in your face. Totally annoying. I need my 3 feet space. Can't stand to have people right up in my face. And I carry myself like a lady not like a hood rat. I don't know...I just felt like that the guys on the westside PJs are acting and behaving different than the one from the south BX PJs or East Harlem.

Yeah I have an idea who your talking about. Some old folk, they usually hang about in the summer around there, playing Domino's and etc. They can be a little loud and annoying.

But not just the old ones. Also the younger ones. And I have to say the older ones are worse!

No..they are unhappy because they believe they "own" the nieghborhood, and the community should play by "their rules" i.e. we want cheap rent, we want to play loud music until 4am, we want to hang out in the streets and do whatever we want with no repurcussions, and we certianly don;t want anyone here that does not "belong."
Unfortunately, life changes....and the party is over. There are other people moving in, and mainstream values are being reinserted back into these communites....the community can fight it all it wants, and push scary stories to keep people out, but it is a losing battle and things are changing..and I for one am glad to see it.
