any reason you have to move to NYC? Why not move to a lower-cost city and then try to find a job in NYC or anywhere else you like. NYC is kind of expensive to live without a decent paying job.

Thanks L'Artiste!
We want to go to NYC because it is our "dream city". Maybe we might go somewhere else and wait for the opportunity to move to NYC, but it would just be delaying our goal.
We will aim for the center of the target.

actually not really.. i have lived in brooklyn that was further from manhattan(40 MINUTES!), jersey city is right there at the gate.. its only a 20 min commute to the first stop. you will realize how it works once you live here.. you won't be giving up on a dream at all.

There are some parts of the City where the commute is 1.5hrs from the CBD , while Urban Jersey is no more then 45mins to Midtown or lower...

I think that zerolife meant to move somewhere far away (like Houston, Washington DC,...) that is much less expensive. This is what I was responding to.
I would have no problem living in reasonable proximity of the city, and not in the city itself .

The advantage of Jersey City is that you look at the Manhattan skyline, and it takes literally only minutes to be in the city itself.

An admirable stance, says this native-born Brooklynite. (I mean about your making NYC your goal--not necessarily Manhattan!)

One thing you might want to think about some more: in your original posting, you said that you didn't have a job. That's going to cause some problems. Make employment your first priority, over and above finding that place to live.

Unfortunately, it is not negotiable.
I am quite aware that the jobs should be our first priority, but we are required to enter USA before 24th of July, having a job, or not. This is something that just has to be done.
We are trying, of course, to find employment, but we cannot neglect apartment issue.
