SuperMario:
Well, that's part of my point. For ME, it is safe enough to take the chance, weigh the positives and negatives, and be happy with my choice because I planned it waaaay ahead of time. But what about the posters who just say out and out, a white person (male, female, etc) would be crazy to live here? My b/f is of course male. He's been through a lot in his 57 years, esp in Manhattan when it was reallllly hairy. This is a cakewalk for him. And it's ALL he could afford. So what should he do--jump in the Harlem River on a life raft? I never said the area was a paradise. Please, people. And it's definitely not for everyone. But to say "no whites need apply or you'll be dead" is preposterous. There was a incredibly ridiculous debate on another thread about what consituted the South Bronx. Some said it's not a geographical location, and that much of the North Bronx is in fact the "south" Bronx. Makes it very confusing to even know where the hell anyone lives here. Pointless semantics. |

Oh, sorry...I've heard it (Univ Heights) and fordham, referred to as the Northwest Bronx, but what-evah. My area is directly across the river from the Cloisters, so it seems rather North to me.

Its just to keep hyping up a neighborhood that is questionable at best. Honestly I don't know you and wish you no harm, but i question your motives behind hyping this area.

SuperMario:
Ever heard about the wildings in Manhattan? The central park jogger who was almost killed? And other terrific tales of good old Manhattan living? I lived there when it happened. I have an inkling that a young white woman being attacked here would be quite a story indeed, as it has been in the past in NYC. So would a black woman being attacked by whites (remember the whole farce about Duke university where the whole damn college team had their lives put on hold because of those allegations? Remember Tawana Brawley, anyone?) In fact, there were a few horror stories about the now trendy LES not long ago. Something about a coupla white college students being kidnapped and murdered. No big whoop. |

But kudos on the coop Elvira, I urge others to do the same if you're deadset on moving to the area. |

I question your motives as well. I'm not hyping the area. I told the good and the bad, and I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.
Maybe it's because I'm older, have been around a long time, have seen the cycles of good and bad and bad and good, and have a decent idea of how to stay outta trouble. I also now have enough money to live in a nice (almost entirely black) coop in the Bronx. So sue me already--sorry if I offend. I didn't know the sign that said welcome to the Bronx also had a line below it that said "unless you're white." |

I second this.

I don't frequent the side streets. All the shopping I need is on Fordham. If I need something else, I can travel elsewhere to get it or get it online.

Please respond to my actual posts if you can. You know how people become "lucky" in the real estate game? They buy property when things are cheap, and before all the timid sheeple move in when the coast is clear. Then all the others whine about the damn yuppies and the high rents they can no longer afford in their now "safer, whiter" neighborhood.
To each his own. He who does not learn from history is doomed to repeat it. |

That's very good IMO, if you wanna live in this area. You seem to know your way around.
