If you can settle for other than Thai try the Korean food court in Korea town. It's on 32nd street (north side of street) between 5th & 6th, closer to 5th. They not only specialize in Korean but you can get many Japanese, Thai, and even Chinese dishes as well.

If you like Pad Thai, one of the best I ever had was actually in Chinatown at a Chinese restaurant. It's called Pongsri, located at 106 Bayard Street.

For decent, very inexpensive Japanese food give Sapporo a try, located at 152 W. 49th street between 6th & 7th, actually really close to 7th Avenue on the south side of 49th Street.

I promise, you won't regret any of the three I suggested and the prices are incredibly reasonable!

Also, take xxbabeechick's advise and stick to water. It's the drinks that get you anywhere you go!

Have Fun!!!
Thank You! This helps greatly. We're actually staying near E 32nd and Park Avenue, so it sounds like the Koreatown food court might be really close.

We both LOVE Pad Thai, so I'll definitely have to check out Pongsri as well!

OP, everyone seems to like the sushi at this place called Amber, and I'm not big on sushi, but I liked the food here. It's more like Asian fusion. A cool Buddha in the back room with changing colored lights trained on it/sort of a temple atmosphere.

There also seemed to be a lot of younger people (I am not in that category) hanging out at the bar, too. You might enjoy it.

If you're looking for an inexpensive but good Asian place, try this one: http://www.noodles28nyc.com/About_Us.aspx

As far as good deals go, your best bet budget-wise might be to eat your dinner at lunch time--lots of places offer good lunch specials. Then in the evenings, grab pizza or sandwiches or burgers.

If this is a serious question, you should go to Chowhound, where there are more foodies than here. In generally, always consider lunch for expensive restaurants, and many have prix-fixe menus for $25.
