Just got back from Stuyvesant Ave near the Utica station. I've seen a noticeable amount of the yuppy/hipster presence in that particular surrounding. It is what it is... That's knee deep in the Bed-Stuy.
I cannot say that middle class people of color are moving in specifically to Bushwick in any numbers, however I can say that in other lower income communities, like Harlem, Southern Bronx, etc, middle class people of color, gays of all colors, yuppies of every color, etc are the ones driving alot of the changes, while traditional "whites" are just a very small but obviously more visible percentage of that.
I agree. I see it even further uptown where I live. I think it is the affordable apartments and the easy commute downtown that is drawing the newer residents.
The farthest uptown that I seen hipsters is near Yankee Stadium and Washington Heights. I can't never forget when I saw two hipster chicks riding fixies on 138 st.

The Hipster push is already in the Southern Bronx, and uptown Manhattan in general. They are doing the same thing every other person in NYC is doing...looking for somewhere affordable to live. If you are new to this city, and on a tight budget, you pursue locations on the periphery because they are more affordable.
Is this all that surprising? They are human beings after all, no matter how much you try to dehumanize them or blame them for "the destruction of NYC."
That's interesting actually!
If they were just another 'ethnic group', would that make people more tolerable of them?
I hate hipsters as much as anyone, but I'm wary of the construction "blah blah THE (fill in blank with race, class, etc under discussion"). Too reminscent of country club bar talk of red faced ex frat boy golfers.
"The Jee-ew cain't be trusted. Now your colored, he's alright as long as you keep an eye on him..."

I haven't been to Fordham in a long while, nothing for me up there.
