Thanks for the additional information about the status of the FreshDirect move. I am also against this move. The fact that the city wants to pay them MILLIONS just to stay in the city and make the Bronx enticing enough is absurd. This is a profitable company and if they have decided that they have out grown their space they should be paying to expand not tax payers. Also I know of only one water front park in the south Bronx, Barreto Point Park. This water front land should turn into parks and biking/running trails as outlined in the greenway initiative. Every other borough has beautiful water front access but in the Bronx we have few. This would permantely cutoff this land. This is definitely a step back for the area.

Exactly.A lot of people in my neighborhood, including me,are happy to have this as an option.Someone put a notice up in my lobby yesterday announcing this. Many in in my building and my neighborhood are already shopping at Fairway and I don't think Fresh direct is any more expensive.

I understand all the environmental concerns people have but feel this is just an inevitable progression and that people should focus energy on making the best of it.

I buy everyone online... now I had add my groceries. 100% for it. The only negative is loud trucks... I dislike UPS and FedEx truck noise however what we need is electric/silent truck not less service.

Bluedog since you believe this is an "inevitable progression and we should make the best of it", I will have them relocate the wharehouse to your block, so you can have the 2,000+ truck trips a day, the idling trucks, and the traffic and noise outside your window. I am sure you and your neighbors will simply smile and "make the best of it". Right?

So back to reality...the fundamental problems are these:

1. They are relocating to the Bronx, PERMANENTLY blocking the waterfront, parkland and housing which should be built here and is being built on every other waterfront in NYC.

2. They planned to move into this facility with TAX PAYER money but would not even serve the Bronx outside of 2 zipcodes. Really? Because of bad press they decided to now serve all Bronx areas...but I thought there was no demand according to them? Kinda strange huh.

3. They will be bringing 2,000+ truck trips PER DAY through the community which is already saturated with truck traffic, and has the highest asthma rates in the city.

4. There was ZERO community input, and was simply dumped into the area. Why was that hmm?

5. They have no obligation to provide anything to the community, despite taking massive public funds. Really? Remember, Yankee stadium was a massive giveaway of tax payer money, but they at least were required to provide lots of new parkland, greened the area with new trees, donated money to community groups for schools and athletics, etc. Fresh Direct? NOTHING.

So there you have it. Anyone who lives in the Bronx who signs up for Fresh Direct is doing a disservice to themselves, and allowing our elected officials to continue to rape the borough and the residents.

i don't see why some are strongly opposed to FD relocating to the bronx. it was bound to happen anyway, even with gentrification, which is exactly the crowd FD is hoping to net profit from. at the end of the day, they're paying much less by staying in the bronx, as opposed to LIC. i believe they'll do just fine.

Thats because you are seemingly incapable of reading the comment I posted above. Maybe I can draw pictures of you choking on fumes while a truck runs over your dog on the way to a delivery to the UES? Clear enough yet?

i think with all the people they deliver to who dont have to drive to the super market and use gas and create exhaust the truck may be the better deal. the way some of these people drive going to the super market in bay terrace shopping center here ill take that truck driver out there rather than them any day.
