What is the best way to get from the airport to midtown. I'm visiting a friend for the weekend and as many times as I've been to NYC I've never come through LaGuardia. I usually drive, have taken the bus and the train before as well, however, I got lucky and found a flight for Memorial Day Weekend at a great rate so here I am, flying in. Another friend of ours is supposed to be picking me up, she's also coming in for the weekend (I live in VA and she lives in CT) but she can sometimes be unreliable and I'd like to have a back up plan.
Can I take the subway or would it be best if I took a cab? I wont have much luggage, just a carry on and my purse. If I took a cab, how pricey would that be?
Thanks for any help you can provide. I can't wait to be back in NY this weekend, it's been almost a year since I've been and I miss it!
Take the M60 bus from the Airport over the Triborough bridge into Manhattan, then get off on 125th street at either 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, A or D... depending on which side of Midtown you like.
Cost : 2.25
Even if you miss the 4,5,6- you can get 2,3... followed by ABCD.
Takes a little while, but it's the smoothest you can do from LGA.
I personally despise the m60..crowded, slow, pain in the but if you ask me.
surprised more people don't do this but i just get a cab to jackson heights/roosevelt ave and jump on any manhattan bound train of your choice there...$5 cab fare and then $2.25 and your all set.
the easiest way by far is to just jump in a cab and go, depending on traffic and route usually 40ish into Midtown.
Thank you both. I'm not to keen on busses. I tend to get really car sick on busses but not cabs or trains (go figure). I may just open my pocket and pay for the cab or do like you said vanguard and take the cab to the train and the train to midtown.
I suggest you take the Q33 bus to the Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street subway station (which also has elevators) in Jackson Heights. From there you can take either an express or local subway train into Manhattan. There is a free transfer from the Q33 bus to the subway. So the total cost will be $2.25 (or $2.50 if you need to get a completely new Metrocard which has 25 cents fee besides $2.25 fare).
Thanks everyone! You are all so helpful. Hopefully my friend wont flake out and will pick me up, but if not, I know I have options.
you're welcome. just know most cabs take debit/credit cards if that makes life easier for you. once in awhile you'll get a broken reader and will need to pay cash but in my experience with cabs, that's rare
