Well first you need to define what YOU believe is a transplant:
1-When did they move here? Less than 6 months ago? Less than 5 years ago? Less than 15 years ago?
2-How far did they have to move from? Does LI count? Does Pennsylvania count? NJ? CT?
3-What if they have family here which has always lived here? Are they still a transplant then?
4-What if they spent the first 10 years of their life here, but left, and now they are 40 and moving back to the city...are they transplants?
5-What if you were born somewhere else, but spent the bulk of their life here...are they a transplant?
6-How long does it take to be a native? (similar to #1 above).
7-If they come from another country, are they also transplants?
So what is the difference between someone who moved 5 years ago versus 6 years ago? Do you go through a miraculous transformation and are now "native."?
How long do you have to live in NYC before you can drop the word "transplant" and you are a "NYr"
