Is Manhattan almost dominated by transplants or is there still a large population of locals?

About what % of the population moved to the area recently from outside the tri state area?

My guess would be 90%. Maybe. Most people who come from out of NYC mostly want to live that "dream" of being in Manhattan.

Well first you need to define what YOU believe is a transplant:

1-When did they move here? Less than 6 months ago? Less than 5 years ago? Less than 15 years ago?
2-How far did they have to move from? Does LI count? Does Pennsylvania count? NJ? CT?
3-What if they have family here which has always lived here? Are they still a transplant then?
4-What if they spent the first 10 years of their life here, but left, and now they are 40 and moving back to the city...are they transplants?
5-What if you were born somewhere else, but spent the bulk of their life here...are they a transplant?
6-How long does it take to be a native? (similar to #1 above).
7-If they come from another country, are they also transplants?

So people who moved here 30 years ago from Ohio to live in Manhattan for the lifestyle are transplants?

How long do you have to live in NYC before you can drop the word "transplant" and you are a "NYr"

So what is the difference between someone who moved 5 years ago versus 6 years ago? Do you go through a miraculous transformation and are now "native."?
