I love halal food! I always get chicken and lamb over rice.
So unhealthy yet so good. I like the 53rd & 6th cart but I think it's overrated. If anyone lives in Queens, King of Falafel & Shawarma is one of Queen's finest.
I was tempted for years to try one out beacuse it smelled delicious
when walking pass the Halal Food Trucks, but I usually kind of skeptical
of street foods because of the worry about the cleanliness of them to
enjoy it fully, that's why I'm more open to meatless foods like doughnut
or bagel because it won't go bad as easy as those with meat.
I finally give in to my craving and tried one out last year, got some
chicken and lamb over rice with white sauce and a little bit of hot
sauce. ( I raised my eyebrow when the guy pouring those white sauce
over the rice like water. I was thinking like WTF was that in my head.)
According to my one time experience the food was not bad, but not as
good as I thought it would be, cus the chicken and lamb meats were both
too dry and salty. Maybe it just this cart, other places might be better. I
will probably give it another try in the future if I'm hungry and there is one
near me, but not going to go out of my way to get it.
^^^you probably don't want to look into the kitchens of most stationary NYC restaurants, either. I don't think the trucks are any worse!
I liked the Rafiqi's at Zuccati Park when I worked down there, and I liked the Rafiqi's on Park Ave South by 24th Street, when I worked up there. Chicken over rice, a LITTLE hot sauce plus white sauce. Now I'm working in JC, and while there's a truck there, it isn't as good and it costs $1 more.

The "hella" thing makes me grind my teeth, too. I'm afraid it is moving east, like a cancer--my niece in MA uses it, and she's too far away for me to slap her.
I'm not some yuppie scumf*ck pal. I do eat relatively healthy though. Depending on what you get, that stuff can be not a good friend to your body. The plate that most people get probably has 4 thousand mg's of sodium.
Lighten up pal,its not like u are eating it every day. You cant live forever.
They're OK, but no big deal. I would actually prefer to see more of the fusion "Korean taco" trucks. I understand they're huge in LA, but there aren't that many here.
How come the "Halal Guys" on the southeast corner of 6th and 53d are a big hit, but the other halal truck just across the street is not? Has anyone tried "Halal Guys"?
Lighten up pal,its not like u are eating it every day. You cant live forever.

If you have seen any of my posts around here, you know that I despise our whiny, arrogant little nanny troll of a mayor probably more that 95% of this forum. Never once have I, or will I ever, advocate for the government stepping in to control what we are allowed to put into our bodies. I was simply giving you my opinion on the truth about this particular street food.
And like I said, I do eat it every once in a while.
