Bluedog is absolutely right...Ruben Diaz and crew are not interested in doing what is best for the Bronx, they are doing what is best for themselves..and their goal is to maintain their voting block (the poor, ignorant people of color), and not allow another group (educated, middle and upper middle class people) flood into the borough.
Yes there are middle income developments going up, however these elected officials are picking and choosing what gets built and who can live there. So yes more affluent people are coming in and incomes are being diversified, but it is happening slowly, and gentrification in the traditional sense of the word, just is not happening and won't be allowed to happen.
They play the same game all our national politicians play. Except they do it on a smaller scale. Do what you gotta do to stay elected not necessarily what is best for the community you represent.

I am not saying they are the only bad politicians, I am just commenting on what they are doing and why things don't change as quickly in the Bronx as in other boroughs. While other boroughs are taking 2 steps forward, the Bronx is taking 1/2 a step forward....so we are still falling further and further behind..and it is due 100% to our elected officials very purposefully preventing change as much as possible.

I agree but I also think it's up to the individual landlord to do it's part by renting to quality people who have the means of paying the rent and not depending on the system. Sobro, you and I are both landlords, we both share the same ideas in screening our prospective tenants as well as leaving the apartment vacant for 4 month if need be, until the "right" qualified tenant comes along. We both recognize the importance of choosing the right tenants that will ultimately represent the neighborhood.
Now just imagine for a second if the majority of Bronx landlords did exactly what Sobro and I do...in my opinion, the Bronx would not be as ghetto and it would look more inviting to others.
So yes, politicians do play a role in keeping the Bronx ghetto but Bronx landlords also are not helping the matter by renting to the very same people/demographic these politicians pander to.
