I got a friend who is thinking about moving to the area possibly. He lives in the Pacific NW and works at a hospital as patient escort. He has a few yrs of exp and no college degree. In order for him to make it worth it, he'd have to find a job here of at least $20/hr in the same or any other industry. Would that be feasible given that there would be no hookups or anything? I haven't been here that long myself so wouldn't be able to help him in that sense.

The way you describe him, it sounds as if he has no skills, no academic credentials, and likely no savings. So, no, I don't think moving here would be a smart move.

There are lots of these types of services or even orderlies in hospitals or assisted living homes. The hard part is if they're hiring. A lot of these agencies close shop or lay off. Have your friend search those job websites like Indeed.com. or even Google Patient Escort. A bunch of search engines and employment sites come up. As for can he afford it? He can do it providing he can find an apartment where he won't have to spend $1000 a month on rent. He can also try going through temp agencies. As for jobs outside of that industry, I don't know what pays at least $20 an hour. Is he open to where he wants to live and work? Does he want to live in NJ and work in Manhattan? Live in Queens and work in one of the boroughs?

I know someone who has this job title in a NY hospital and she makes $8.50 an hour. And I am not even sure how easy it was for her to get that job. So, no, it's not feasible.

We might be able to help you friend much better if we communicated directly with him. Why don't you encourage him to create an account here on CD.

Escorts are always in demand in NYC.
Patient ones are probably a good niche area.

We haven't really got to that yet, we just discussing it in general for now. I did search for those kinda jobs on those sites, but it's pretty difficult to get any info from there, about pay and everything. It says medium pay is 41k for Manhattan for patient escort, but I don't know how accurate is that. In regards to affording it, I know he can be ok here on $20/hr, I just don't know how hard is it to get that kinda job. He is probably not gon move here if he will get paid less.

That's weird, that's really low. My friend makes $15/hr plus a buncha benefits in Oregon where it's WAAAAY cheaper to live.

He is busy and not computer friendly. I know him well so you can just tell me. It's a brother from another mother type friend. The question is basically whether it's possible to find a job of his or any other kind that pays $20/hr. That's about it. Things like where he will live or what not are irrelevant right now. I assume wherever he lives though, it's better if he works in NYC, since pay is higher than NJ usually.

Yeah, a lot of them won't show the salary. I found the lower entry/no experience listed about $8/hr but even though titles are the same the actual job descriptions vary. Makes sense to stay there if the same job pays a lot less unless he goes into "escorting" lol
