I actually drove through da BX yesterday, seems really nice, especially Pelham Parkway. I liked the setting of the greenery among the big buildings. Morris park seems aight, Riverdale is def kul. I also drove through Southern BK in places like Bensonhurst and Bay Ridge (been there a few times now), and while it is all nice, I think it's not for me. The traffic is bad so having a car would be a major pain pretty much anywhere even if I had my own parking, which I won't and just to go somewhere takes a long ass time and you can't park near most of the stores. Having no car is problematic too though cuz what if I wanna go to a place other than Manhattan. This whole city life is not for me it seems like so I am prolly better off in either SI or suburban NJ. NJ seems too boring though and inconvenient for now with all the tolls and tunnels cuz I like to go to NYC on the weekends so unless I live on the gold coast or somewhere near Path, it's too far, but those places are too urban for me. it's also too far from BK and Queens, which I frequent as well. Plus I should be within NY so I will get in state tuition later and perhaps some city jobs in the future that require city residency, considering my career path. Basically, I am wild when the time is right, and I like to kick it in NYC, but I like the peace and quiet of suburban life. I am 25 and even though I grew up in Moscow, Russia, I don't know if I grew up too quick or what not or maybe suburban peacefulness is just something I got used to when I lived in Pacific NW, prolly both, but it is what it is. From what I see, for me, SI seems like the good middle ground, and I can still get to JJ in bout 1hr using express buses and subway if I find a place close enough to the VZ bridge.
Is this all a fair assessment in my situation?

Is that near Manhattan College? The map doesn't show it too clearly, I just see a park of that name.

I think its a nice beach for swimming because its a bay beach, no big violent waves. But some people like the waves, whatevs. As far as I know this is only beach in the bronx. Like every beach in nyc water quality can be iffy, check online how the water quality is before going.

Dont know if you already moved yet but why not check areas in Kingsbridge (west of broadway) or Bedford Park, both in the Bronx? You have access to the #1 train in Kingsbridge and the B and D train in Bedford Park.(IMO is the faster commute to Colombus Circle than the #1). Don't be afraid of the Bronx, I was once like everyone else listening to people who made it seem like the Bronx was some warzone. Rents are cheaper here (you can get some decent sized studios and 1 bedrooms for a real good price, some of them with all utilities included). Another suggestion is Pelham Parkway area. I am in Pelham Gardens and the BX26 passes along Bedford Park Blvd. You could take that to the D and be at JJ within an hour. I am in Riverdale renting a sublet apartment to get a feel of the place, its nice but a bit far from mass transit. If I had a family I would consider that place to plant my roots. Let us know if you got a place or not. Your reply would help others and reduce the need to start multiple threads of the same subject.

BTW with that $1000 you could possibly get a 1 br (maybe with all utilities included) in Bx in a nice area. some may have parking (those i've gone to see had parking). Otherwise street parking will have to do, good thing about Pelham Gardens is that there isnt alternate side parking.
