I believe the topic of Washington Heights was heavily covered in another thread

It's uptown manhattan. IMO Washington Heights resembles the south Bronx visually. Alot of graffiti, loitering, traffic, alot of tenements too. It was the crack capital of the world back in the late 80's. It was also the auto theft capital too. Not a good area. It's mostly all dominican, so if you're not from DR then you're gonna feel strange. DDP and trinitarios, dominican gangs, dominate the area. It's the dominican ghetto. Not a good place at all. Although, someone familiar with this area told me on this board that things are improving. But from where I've been and seen...Amsterdam, Audobon, St. Nicholas and Broadway are dumps...pure filth.

^Hustla's little brother. That's a joke, by the way.
Hudson Heights is a great area of Washington Heights, else wise, I'm not impressed.

btw...why are domincanos so LOUD lol
serious question...
i know its loud just about everywhere but with them everything has to be *extra* loud...even when parents just talk to their kids lol they yell.
and when they congregate in groups. forget it....its a noise feast.
is it a cultural thing from back home ?
just curious.
p.s. i dont mean this in any racial way at all. i've been cool with many dominicans over the years, and i've asked them this same question...but, they just laugh it off lol.

It's more social class system, instead of cultural.
Those living in the slums back home will be the nosiest, blasting merengue into the late night and right back in the morning. Middle/upper middle class Dominicans who migrated to NYC are more calmer and the elite don't exist here because they could blow money out their ass and own vast amounts of land in the DR.

At the start of school last year, I told the kids in my class (I'm a teacher) to quiet down. They responded that, since they were DR, they couldn't help being loud.
