I will love the mall. It would be great to finally have a mainstream shopping district with major national retailers in the Bronx..and not the usual Jimmy Jazz, Dr. Jay's, VIM garbage.

It is interesting that they chose to build an enclosed mall, not the newer trend with a lifestyle center mall, like Ridge Hill that is currently being completed in Yonkers. Bay Plaza has been in need of redevelopment for years, and upgrading the retail options is not a bad thing at all. I agree that the Manhattan Mall would not be an unqualified success, but Bay Plaza also has a draw from Lower Westchester, so it should be more successful in this iteration.

Albee Square Mall in Brooklyn was a disaster, and that was in a convenient location!

Oh, by the way, a Macy's at Bay Plaza is a death knell for it's Parkchester spot! And Parkchester has enough vacant business property in these times!

The Macy's in parkchester has been "dead' for decades. It is more like a horrible JC Penney than a Macy's....and if you have ever been in there..you would understand why I say that. The Macy's in Parkchester is not a competitor to the Macy's opening in Bay Plaza...they are 2 completely different stores.

Yes, that was sad because it could've partnered with Yankee Stadium, giving discounts and/or shuttle bus service. So some game-goers could've shopped after the game instead of everyone flooding the 161 Street/Yankee Stadium station immediately after the game. Oh well.

Is it still there? I loved Albee Square Mall but I was really young. Remember Bojangles fried chicken!? I couldn't get enough of that stuff.

Amazing. When I was growning up in LI,kids from the boros would make fun of us for having these types of amenities. I would also hear arguments like, "Thats why you guys have Dominos" or "You dont have real New York coffee, whats Dunkin Donuts?" Now I see is large retail chains, eatieries and kids on long boards.

Since when did it become fasionable for City residents to take the "white" suburban lifestyle?

Worst Macy's ever. It feels like a Filienes Basment in a basment of a Macys.

To Mall Lovers.
I moved to an apartment complex on the JC Waterfront immediately in front of a large Mall. I thought the location was PERFECT. After about 6 months the novelty wore off and going to the Mall became a tiresome chore like any other.
(Macy's, Penny's, Kohl's, SEARS...and once upon a time STERN's plus the mandatory 150 other stores and a 12-Plex cinema.)

Mall's get OLD quick unless you are a teen needing to hang out someplace with air conditioning.

I used it most often as a shortcut to get to Shop-Rite.

It's probably a good place to put a mall - it's one of the least attractive parts of the Bronx so some big supermall won't be much of an eyesore. I'd probably go a few times a year, but I just don't find the idea super-exciting. I was more interested in a mall in the armory simply because it's possible for us to walk there, but in retrospect, maybe it wasn't such a great plan afterall. I hate the idea of enormous Gap and Victoria's Secret signs outside such a beautiful structure. Not to mention all the traffic.

If it's close to Co-Op City then it's sorely needed.
How far is it from the closest point in Co-Op City?
