LOL...apparently coming across young kids trying to earn a buck by doing backflips to music on a moving train makes him feel victimized
Those kids are going to KILL someone if not themselves. I've seen them TWICE and TWICE the same guy smashed his head against the ceiling, the second time drawing blood.

I'm already itching with curiosity to know where else the OP feels victimized. Perhaps he should consider relocating to a much smaller city or town.

I hate those kids. The guys playing music, even the beggars don't bother me like these kids do. They got a huge attitude with me because I had no place to move out of their way, then they called me a racist because a black guy offered me a seat next to him and I refused - because he was over 300 pounds and I couldn't fit myself into the two-inch gap he called a seat lol.

Overall, the quality has been improving (surprisingly). Perhaps the OP's experience is limited to the few stations where the quality has been going down? For example, the lines that have adopted the new fancy trains have, surprising, remained new and fancy looking. For example the South Ferry station on the 1 line. That station looks (and has remained) spiffy looking and the air isn't hot and oppressive like the old one used to be

On the other hand there's the attached Whitehall station where the R stops. That place has gone doooooooown lately. Last time I went there one of the tracks was completely covered by newspapers.

As for the train performers, there are few groups (like that quintet on the R line) that are really good and make everyone happy. but then again since everyone's looking for a quick buck, there are also some sub-par groups. Bottom line, if they're bad, don't give them money and eventually they'll move on.

That I completely agree with. It's dangerous but at the same time, their intent isn't to victimize anyone. At least I don't think so..

I took the subway for the first time today. The M train from LES to 34th st and back. The M cars themselves were fine and felt fairly fresh. The underground areas were dingy, though. I stayed back from the track area and made it a point not to look at the tracks knowing what may be down there lol. Overall it wasn't that bad. Tonight I will probably take the 4/5/6 up to midtown. Anyone know how those trains compare to the M? I can really take the M, F, 4, 5, or 6 trains and get close enough to where I'm going. If any of those are clearly better or worse than the others, it would be nice to know.

skyway31, I'm not a huge fan of the 4 and 5. The times I've taken them, they have felt "narrow" to me. Same for the 6. JMO. On the plus side, they have good air-conditioning and service is reliable.

You felt they were "narrow" because they ARE narrow lol. They feel no more than 6 feet wide.
