Want to Live Longer? Move to NYC

LiveScience.com - Wed, 13th Jun 2012

While life expectancy in many parts of the United States is dropping, it has increased by 10 years in Manhattan since 1987. Researchers largely attribute that rise — the fastest in the nation — to a crackdown by the New York City health department on unhealthy behaviors.

I think walking here, there, and everywhere has something to do with it as well.

I didn't realize that smoking crack was in the Health Department's jurisdiction.

Did the researchers also mention the increase in wealth of Manhattanites since 1987? How stupid, these liberal researchers. Yes, it's all just due to policy.

It is probably a combination of these factors. Certainly people in NYC walk more as they aren't relying on cars to get everywhere besides the NYC crackdown on unhealthy behaviors.

Also, I guess it's listing those calories on menus that also contribute. They sure scare me. You should see some people on the other side. They eat like there's no tomorrow.

I think that it is because in 1985 the life expectancy was tragically shorter due to murder, people with no concept of health care, and those dying of AIDS and drug overdoses.

The headline from the website is incredibly misleading.
I'm sure the life expectancy in nearby suburbs is the same, if not slightly higher.

I'd rather die right now at 42 than live til 80 the whole time in NYC.

I'd just assume die.
That's just me though..............

The Northeast as a whole has a higher life epextency then say the South which averages 75...The Northwest and Canada are also just as high as the Northeast....its a lifestyle thing...
