NYC has good public transportation. Therefore one does not need a car and saves that expense.
On the other hand, NYC is extremely expensive. So unless you have a good job or a student with sufficient financial help or have a very large sum of money, I would not suggest moving to NYC.

Having moved to Miami when I was 18 and now being back in NYC, go somewhere and get a college education. Neither cities are fun if you don't have money, which without a good job will be hard, especially factoring in NYC rent and Miami bars and clubs.

The two are so completely different I can't even begin to understand how someone could narrow a choice down to the two.

Miami's a terrible place to actually live imo, the job market down there is trash and outside of the beach and nightlife there's not much else to do.

But NY is mad expensive if your only 18, so idk.

Generally speaking, one goes to Miami at mid/late/end career with a set of skills, experience, and wealth already in place.

New York is the place to develop such skills and experience, and generate the wealth. In short, New York offers much more depth and breadth in terms of career and business opportunities.

So, if you are coming with a special marketable skill and/or plans for university education, then New York first.

If you are coming without a special marketable skill or no plans for university education, and are simply looking for a good time, then either way it will be a dirty grind after your initial money runs out, but I would say Miami - or possibly a place like St. Petersburg - whose top draw is warm temperatures year round (though with 6-9 months of humidity, otherwise try even more expensive and densely populated coastal southern California).

Good Luck!
