1 day for orientation, and at most 2 days for the medical.

Pre-Orientation= 1 day
Medical= 1 day, possibly 2 depending on what you couldn't do that 1st day
CDL Training= 6 days (M-F 6a- 2p, followed by 1 day the following week for road test)
Final Processing= 1 day
Its been awhile for me, but I think this is how it goes.

On that History Channel they mentioned that DSNY has 3 Schedules:
Day 8AM-4PM
Swing 4PM-12AM &
Night 12AM-8AM
First of, is it True ?
After the 20 day training what Schedule do New Guys "USUALLY"/"MOSTLY" end up working. Just would like to know what to expect.
Some have mentioned something about New Guys are told the day before, each day in the Garage. Kind of like a Floater or Bullpen personnel. Thanx.
So no School for the next Semester. Need to Recertify my EMT Cert. that expires soon.

It varies, because they give you the time/date to go...so I can't really give you an answer on it. It also depends on how many appointment slots (for physical & BAC testing, hearing, XRAYS) they have left open in a day AND how many people go before you do. My advice would be to try to get it all done in 1 day. The pre-orientation meeting is a guaranteed FULL day; well atleast 5-6 hours. Good luck to you...

There are other shifts also 7pm-3am and diff parade or event schedules. After your done with FBF you get your orders too where your garage will be. Then after that for the first 30 days you will be days and after that what most people suggest is sign nights otherwise you pretty much set yourself up too bounce around until you acquire more people below you. Or setup for a term they call a round robin (misery) 4pm-12am,8am-4pm,12am-8am. Between travel time and 2 hours of sleep it's not fun. And one thing that your going to have too get use to is, it is true for the first part of your carrier you will not be able too make plans or have a life. Cause everyday at 1:40pm you are going to have too call for orders and it can always change. Why it's better bet too sign nights .
