I think the OP knows she has to go through the police Academy. But I hope the OP know that a Detective is on the same level as a regular Police Officer.

So I'm a troll from LA (Well, not really because i was just checking this forum out because i was thinking of moving there as an option) But take it from me when I say most of LA is a dump. We have the most ****ty schools thanks to all of the illegals coming in and dragging down LAUSD. The college system is so stretched out and broke that state universities are not accepting applicants this year or for spring enrollment. The Welfare system has been drained out and with most people not paying taxes, resources are scarce. Once middle class neighborhoods are now third world countries because of the illegals bringing their lifestyle here. LA is experiencing a middle class flight for the first time in years. Water and electricity bills are skyrocketing out of control. Businesses are leaving because there isn't a very business friendly environment here. Even the movie industry is leaving in massive droves for cheaper business. A lot of them has fled to Canada. Taxes are way to high. To live in a good area will cost you at least 500,000 to start and it probably wont be the home you want. There aren't many family friendly neighborhoods left in Los Angeles and finding a place with good schools is non existent unless you move to an Incorporated city near by but most of them are shaky too. Private Schools are an option but the cost of living is already so high here that its a drag. Basically, if your not making at least 50,000 a year, don't even think about it unless you want to live in an apartment or condo. Like i said LA still has its nice parts like Sherman oaks, Studio City, Encino, Hollywood Hills, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, most of West LA, but VERY EXPENSIVE!!.

Now the good? The weather is unbeatable! (the only thing that keeps alot of people here. Its funny because when its 60 out here or when it sprinkle, we complain and the out of towners from the east coast laugh at us) The pacific ocean. The beaches are amazing. The mountains are all around us. The forests and desert too.
There is a car culture here and we have 2 of the most used freeways in the world (Yes they are parking lots) We do have trains, subways, and buses too but most people dont use them because LA is so spread out.

Its up to you though. Most people that move here don't want to leave and people that do move usually regret it. Its like fatal attraction or something. You hate it at times but most people couldn't imagine ever leaving. LA is very diverse and is very cultural. I Honestly can say that most people like myself complain, but when it comes to moving, most people wouldn't trade LA for anything in the world.

Have you considered San Diego? Its 2 hours away from LA but its one of the best cities in America to live in and the safest. It ranked in the top 10 list. The county has over 3 million people, making it the second biggest city in CA and one of the major cities in the country. Good schools, neighborhoods, culture, night life, basically, everything LA has except without all the crap. Also its much more conservative though democrats slightly outnumber republicans. Very moderate when it comes to politics, which I love because Im an Independent. There is a big Navy presence there and it has a very patriotic atmosphere.

Why?
Cause I use words like aint...and I don't even spell it correctly.
Step one in working for the NYPD detective unit is first becoming a police officer.
Step one in becoming a police officer is total understanding of the English language.
Or at the very least fully understanding how to speak Puerto Rican.

There's a language called Puerto Rican now?????

Its called Spanish.
