I may have to try the cellphone camera tip. My mom has a patio light, she'll have to start keeping it on.

The sad thing is if it really is the handicapped guy my mom would absolutely want me to "leave" him that space. She told me so after I wrote this post.

Thanks for the responses so far.

One of the 3 guys I talked about this with even went so far as to install an on-board security cam system in his Escalade b/c someone was messing with him, this was in SI as well.

This also extends to apartment buildings too. The wacky neighbor upstairs, the ones that throw garbage out the window, I went up there to address another issue only to find the "woman" went off on me going off on a tirade about how she had to get the new neighbors next to her in line. I was like WTF???? Since she's been here longer than both of us she feels she can dole out rules and the next door neighbor feels her and her husband can blast music with speakers out the window and yell out the window at people who aren't doing as she pleases because her sister lives right above her so she has numbers on her side. People are nuts.

But OP this very thing used to happen in my home town with our COUSINS next door. My cousin's husband loved to park in a particular spot and would even put a horse out sometimes whenever he would leave the spot vacant. Right in front of that spot my other cousin would park her car and would have the same "ownership" problem, these spots were in front of their house but the problem would come in when this same cousin would park right on the edge of our driveway. A two-way street that would only allow one car to pass through with parking on either sides so we had a small space for one car in front of our house before our other neighbor's driveway. Since our nutty cousin would park so close it was hard get in the driveway and our driveway had a steep incline which made it a pain in the ass to pull up into. Since these were crazy cousins that would even fight each other we usually didn't say anything to them, but they thought they owned the street and even called police regarding anything parking-wise that they didn't like.

OP, any parking spaces on the street is public property including the space in front of your mother's house, it's first come first serve so to speak. Your neighbors probably resent you parking there since you don't live there (are you leaving your car there when you're not at your mother's for any length of time when you're home in Manhattan?). I think your mother is right, just let the handicap person have the space. I know the handicap person doesn't have dibbs on the spot either, but you're able body aren't you? So what you'll have to walk a few blocks more, to a disabled person a few blocks can feel like ten miles.

Cameras are not that expensive nowadays. You can get a fairly decent outdoors camera with wifi connection and motion detection for about 250-300. You can even connect to the camera in real time with a smartphone.
It's really handy at catching douches like your neighbors.

handicapped or not, there is no reason for anyone to smear crap and drive a nail into your tires.
there is no excuse for such a behavior. once you have the evidence you need, goto the police and get them arrested.

the appropriate action should have been to request for your cooperation on the parking situation like a civilized human being.

such animals should be thrown in jail!

I agree with you, and the nasty animal should be caught.

Kefir King, you're right there are so many mentally unstable people that should be in mental wards but instead they are living among us acting like they are sane but sneaking around doing all kinds of unbelievable stuff. This is the side of NY I hate.
